Use this safety meeting to discuss slips, trips and falls on uneven surfaces within your work area and how to protect yourself as well as other workers from potential injury.
1. Slips, Trips and Falls are common hazards amongst all industries, however while working outdoors a common slip, trip and fall exposure is uneven surfaces on the ground due to tree roots, holes, raised soil, and other environmental conditions.
2. It is important to always be aware of your surroundings and the surfaces you are working on. Uneven surfaces can easily be missed and unseen.
3. Always watch where you are walking and take your time. Avoid using cell phones, tablets, clipboards, or anything else that may distract you while navigating your working environment.
4. After a major storm, soil and outdoor surfaces may be soft and slippery due to rain. Branches, leaves and other debris may also create slip, trip and fall obstacles within your work area.
5. It is always important to wear proper footwear when walking and working on uneven surfaces. Consider wearing footwear that provides ankle protection and stability as well as adequate traction.
6. Be sure the area you are working has adequate lighting in order to spot potential slip, trip and fall hazards. Potential tripping hazards such as branches, leaves and other debris should be cleared when encountered.
