1. Almost every company and home contains solvents. Solvents (usually liquids) are used to dissolve other materials. You may have used a solvent and not been aware of it. Some common solvents are: alcohol, acetone and turpentine.

6. When working with solvents health concerns are a big concern. Eye contact with a solvent can cause irritation, burning, conjuctivitis, or lead to blindness. Skin contract may result in rashes, skin burns or scaly skin. Inhalation and swallowing are usually the biggest concern with solvents. Many solvents evaporate quickly and have no odor or noticeable smell. Solvents can be inhaled without even realizing it. Once inhaled, they can move quickly to the bloodstream causing: headache and dizziness, nausea and vomiting, fatigue and drowsiness, sore throat, tremors, blurred vision and may lead to unconsciousness and death.

7. Do not work with any hazardous substance until you read its label and Material Safety Data Sheet.
