Use this Safety Meeting to discuss the prevention of slip, trip and fall injuries in Tree Care and Landscaping.
1. Slip, trip and fall injuries can occur anywhere and at any time, such as getting in and out of a vehicle, or slipping on wet leaves. By being aware of potential causes of slips, trips and falls, you are lowering the chances of an injury.
2. Rain, snow and ice can cause the ground and pavement to become slippery. Take your time when working outside, exiting vehicles, and entering buildings.
3. Be aware of uneven surfaces, such as holes in the ground or other working surfaces.
4. Always practice good housekeeping by putting tools and equipment back to where they belong and avoid leaving anything on the ground for other workers to trip on and get injured.
5. Keep the working path clear of logs, branches, brush, or other materials.
6. Alert coworkers if you recognize any slippery walking platforms such as catwalks or steps.
7. Avoid standing on surfaces that were not made for standing, such as a chipper tongue.
8. Always check ladders for any damage, and be sure to remove any damaged ladders from the worksite. When you are working in a tree from a ladder, always be tied off.
9. Always wear shoes that have good support, and offer enough grip to avoid slips, trips and falls.
10. What are some other slip, trip and fall hazards that we should be aware of on the job site today?
