Site Security Safety
Topics

1. Having site security is important for businesses. The best way to stop unauthorized access is to lock up areas, use barricades, secure equipment, post signage, and use camera surveillance.

2. Sites should be securely fenced with recognized access and egress. Signs should be posted to warn of the activity in the area and should not encourage unauthorized entry.

3. Remove ladders from scaffolding or securely board up the lower rungs at the end of each day to prevent unauthorized access after hours.

4. Equipment and materials should be locked away and out of sight when possible. However, if it is not possible, equipment should be disabled and/or secured.

5. Control rooms and other areas of operations should be locked and disabled to prevent operation.

6. Access control is the best method to control and track who can enter a manufacturing facility at any time of the day.

7. Never leave keys, ID's, access cards, or anything that would give an unauthorized person access.

8. All onsite visitors should check in upon arriving at the facility and give their information in case of emergency.

9. If you suspect a trespasser, ask who they are on site to visit. Alert supervisors and, if necessary, escort them to site security or off the premises.

10. Surveillance cameras should be used to monitor your facility, equipment, and keep everyone accountable for their actions. Cameras can not only help with theft and/or property damage, but also with accident investigations.

11. Cameras located inside buildings should be near all entries, exits, and throughout areas of daily operations.

12. Cameras located outside should be near the entrances and exits of all buildings, including sheds or storage areas. Also set up cameras near loading docks, parking lots, and where raw material is being stored.

13. Keep all vegetation cut back to allow cameras a full view of the area.

14. Keep the camera equipment and any security software updated on a regular basis.

15. Have adequate lighting in the facility, especially in parking lots and walking surfaces.

16. To reduce theft and break-ins, check that the facility’s alarm system is functioning properly.

17. The alarm system will send a message throughout the facility of the danger so everyone can take necessary precaution.
