Topics

1. Using the right PPE in landscaping and tree care will help prevent injuries. Always choose the right PPE for the job and replace PPE when it is damaged or worn out.

2. Hand injuries are some of the most common amongst all industries. It's important to choose the right glove for the job. For tree care and landscaping industries, select a cut-resistant glove that is durable.

3. Eye protection should be worn at all times. Whether you are using tools, climbing, digging, or cutting grass, there is always a potential for debris to get into your eyes.

4. When using equipment, like chainsaws or chippers, face shields can protect your face from injuries from debris.

5. Head protection is a good way to prevent injuries from potential overhead hazards. Climbing helmets should be worn by those climbing in trees while hard hats should be worn by employees on the ground with overhead hazards.

6. The sun is an overhead hazard that might not create a struck-by injury, but it can cause heat-related illnesses or sunburn. Wear a wide-brimmed or a floppy hat with UV protection to give your face and neck shade.

7. To protect yourself further from the sun, wear UV protective/UBF clothing and keep sunscreen around.

8. Chainsaws, chippers, and other equipment are loud. Hearing protection should be worn to prevent noise injuries.

9. Pants should be worn to protect your legs from thrown objects. For example, wear chaps if working with chainsaws.

10. Non-slip boots will help firm your feet. Consider a waterproof option.

11. High-visibility clothing should be worn to alert coworkers and any potential oncoming roadway traffic of your presence. In addition, chipper operators should wear a tear-away option.

12. What other PPE should be worn to prevent injuries at the workplace?
