Follow these OSHA guidelines when determining if all tractors have been equipped with ROPs and other protective equipment and if all operators are practicing safe operating procedures.
1. All tractor operators have been trained and are aware of safe operating procedures.
2. All tractors are equipped with rollover protection (ROPS).
3. All tractors that are equipped with ROPS have seatbelts and are fastened during operation.
4. Tractors contain a placard containing the manufacturer name and address, and make/model or serial number that the ROPS is designed to fit.
5. The operator's station inside ROPS equipped tractors is free from sharp surfaces, edges and corners that could cause injuries if the tractor tips over.
6. Operators avoid driving on uneven surfaces including ditches, embankments and holes.
7. Operators reduce speed when turning, crossing slopes, and on rough, slick or muddy surfaces.
8. Operators use caution at row ends, on roads, and around trees.
9. Operators do not allowing others to ride on the equipment.
10. Operators drive the tractor smoothly with no jerky turns, or sudden starts or stops.
11. The equipment attached to the drawbar and hitch points is manufacturer recommended.
12. Operators set the brake securely and use the park lock if available when leaving the tractor unattended.
