This meeting reviews guidelines for measuring ambient noise level and wearing the correct PPE. Based on CalOSHA standards this toolbox talk is useful for reminding employees to protect their hearing.
1. Don't you have to work in construction for a long time to get permanent hearing loss?
2. So is noise dangerous only if it's very loud?
3. Noise is measured in decibels (dB). A noise above 120 dB is so loud that it cause pain in the your ears. Cal/ OSHA says no worker may be exposed to more than 90 dB, as an avereage over an 8- hour shift. This called the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for noise. What are some examples of noise on a construction site that might be over 90 dB.
4. What are come clues that there might be too much noise on the job?
5. What does Cal/ OSHA require use to do to protect against noise?
6. When do you need to use hearing protection?
7. Aren't ear plugs uncomfortable? Can't it be dangerous to use them?
