Use this safety meeting to discuss high visibility clothing and PPE.
1. High visibility clothing is worn to improve how well others see them. Wearing high vis can reduce the risk of incidents and fatalities, especially when operating or around mobile equipment, or in low light, poor visibility areas.
2. Due to regularly changing environments, regardless of what trade or industry your company may be in, employees should wear some type of high visibility clothing or PPE.
3. High vis clothing and PPE are bright or florescent colors, typically green, orange, or red/pink and usually include reflective strips.
4. PPE can be a shirt, vest, jacket, headgear, overalls, or even a harness. Maintain effective visibility by keeping garments clean and replace when they show wear and tear.
5. During colder weather, it's likely your outerwear will need to be high vis. If you're using a vest, make sure it can fit over all of your clothing and can close properly. Stay dry with high vis rain gear.
6. If working near machinery or equipment that has the potential to pull you in, like conveyors or other rotating equipment, choose an option that is tearaway to avoid injuries and fatalities.
7. Not all high vis material is fire retardant. If you are working in areas where there is hot work, make sure your high vis is rated as FRC.
8. In what ways does your company use high vis clothing or PPE? Is there another type of high vis that you would benefit from?
