Topics

1. We’ve made it through the hottest part of the season, but we need to stay vigilant. Temperatures can still be high well into late summer. Heat fatigue can accumulate over the months. Even though fall is approaching, we must keep our hydration and heat safety habits strong.

2. Hydration & Heat Safety - Don't Let Your Guard Down; Continue Hydrating: Don’t stop drinking water just because it’s getting cooler. Hydration should be a year-round priority. Signs of Heat Illness: Fatigue, dizziness, confusion, or heavy sweating may be overlooked if workers think summer is over. Stay aware of these signs. Breaks and Rest Areas: Ensure you’re still taking breaks in shaded or cool areas to let your body rest and recover.

3. Clothing & Sun Protection; Sun Protection: Even in late summer, the sun’s rays can still be intense. Continue using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and taking advantage of hats and sunglasses. Layering for Changing Temps: As temperatures fluctuate, adjust your clothing to stay comfortable.

4. Stretching; Stretching Before and After Work: This is still essential. After months of summer labor, muscles may be more prone to injury if proper stretching habits are neglected. Stretching During the Day: Focus on post-lunch or long task stretches. A few minutes can prevent injury and improve focus for the second half of the day. Encourage Team Stretching: Keep stretching a group activity, especially as the summer ends. It keeps muscles limber and reminds everyone of the importance of their body’s wellness.

5. Transitioning to Fall - Maintaining Awareness; Stay Active in Safety: The risk of heat exhaustion doesn't disappear overnight. Even as fall approaches, it's essential to continue watching for the signs. Don’t let your guard down just because summer is ending. Heat safety and hydration should be year-round practices.
