General Scaffolding Safety
Topics

1. Working on scaffolding has the potential for many hazards that includes falling from heights, struck-by, overhead hazards, and electricution. Scaffolds can also become overloaded, causing collapse.

2. To confirm that scaffolding is in good condition and safe to use, it must be inspected by a competent person before each use. A competent person must be identified before starting operations for the day and they must sign off the inspection.

3. Fall protection is required if working 10-feet or higher and guardrails must be installed on all open sides. Toe boards are also required to prevent falling tools or objects over the sides of the working platforms.

4. Climbing is never allowed on cross braces or end frames, unless they're designed to be climbed on.

5. Follow access point rules and use designated ladders to climb levels. However, never use a ladder or any other equipment on scaffolding to increase height or reach.

6. Keep debris, equipment, and materials off of scaffolding platforms and keep access points cleared.

7. Don't overload a scaffold and make sure tools, equipment, and all other materials are put away overnight.

8. Don't work or climb on scaffolding in bad weather. Windy conditions can knock over scaffolding and icy conditions can make it slippery.

9. In what ways can you prevent exposures to hazards while working on scaffolding?
