Use this safety meeting to go over first aid, CPR, and AED safety.
1. First aid is the short-term, immediate care for injuries or illnesses before medical treatment is performed. Anyone that can do first-aid must have the basic training for it and the knowledge of the supplies that are required.
2. Typical supplies are for the treatment of minor cuts or scrapes, minor burns, stuck-in or sharp injuries, and insect bites or stings.
3. Training in first-aid will review what to do in an emergency situation and immediately treat an injury or illness. It will also go over CPR compressions and how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
4. First aid kits should be available throughout your facility. If you are mobile and travel to different job sites, you should have one in your vehicle.
5. However, supplies do have an expiration date! Make sure to regularly inspect your first aid kit and replace expired supplies.
6. Always have the right PPE when there is an incident with bloodborne pathogens. This includes gloves, eye protection, and masks. Bloodborne pathogen exposures should only be cleaned and disposed of by a trained person. Unless you are trained, do not help with this process.
7. In the event that someone gets a foreign object in their eye, eyewash stations should be present.
8. There are small bottles of eyewash solutions that can fit in a first aid box, but the recommendation is to flush out the eye for at least 15 minutes. One eyewash bottle will not last for 15 minutes, so make sure there is another eyewash option close by to allow the full 15 minute wash as required.
