Trench Excavation Inspection

1. Do excavations go through a daily inspection by a Competent Person before the start of work?

2. Are employees protected from loose rock or soil?

3. Are materials and equipment set back at least 2' from the edge of excavation?

4. Are barriers provided at all excavations, well, pits, etc.?

1. Are hard hats worn by all employees?

2. Are employees wearing high-vis clothing?

3. Are employees prohibited from walking or working under suspended loads?

4. Are employees prohibited from working on benched excavations above other employees?

1. Have utilities been located?

2. Have locations of utilities near excavations been marked?

3. Have utility companies been contacted

1. Have employees been protected from accumulation of water?

2. Has surface water been controlled or diverted?

3. Is water removal equipment monitored by a Competent Person?

4. Are inspections completed following rainstorms?

1. If working in an area where oxygen deficiency is possible, has an atmospheric test been completed?
