Use this MSHA checklist to ensure you are providing adequate training for mine workers. Training should focus on site-specific hazards and be taught by a competent and qualified individual.
1. Are employees provided information and site-specific hazard awareness training before any employee is exposed to mine hazards?

2. Is appropriate site-specific hazard awareness training also provided to office and staff personnel, scientific workers, delivery workers, customers, construction contractors, etc.?

3. Are miners, such as drillers or blasters, who move from one mine to another mine while remaining employed by the same production-operator or independent contractor provided with site-specific hazard awareness training for each location?

Do new miners receive a minimum of 4 hours of training in the following 7 subjects, before he or she begins work: Mine tour and intro to the work environment; hazard awareness training for known hazards at the location; a review of the emergency medical procedures, escape and emergency evacuation plans; . Instruction on the health and safety aspects of the tasks to be assigned, including the safe work procedures; Instruction on the statutory rights of miners and their representatives under the Act; review and description of the line of authority of supervisors and miners' representatives; and an introduction to site rules and procedures for reporting hazards?

13. Do new minors receive the following aditional training within 60 days: Instruction and demonstration on the use, care, and maintenance of selfrescue and respiratory devices, if used at the mine; and a review of first aid methods?
