Hangar Material Handling Inspection

1. Are hangar walking aisles kept clean, dry and free of obstructions?

2. Are hoist and crane operators qualified and properly designated?

3. Are bridge cranes or jib cranes visually inspected every day prior to use?

4. Are monthly, frequent, and periodic hoist and crane inspections documented?

5. Are running ropes and lifting hooks for overhead hoists and cranes checked at least monthly by a competent person?

6. Are forklift drivers trained to keep clear of aircraft and pedestrians and never operate forklifts within 10 feet of aircraft?

7. Are forklift drivers observed maintaining safe clearances for aisles and near parked aircraft by not placing material in travel aisles?

8. Are forklift drivers observed following safe procedures for picking up, putting down and stacking loads?

9. Are warnings or mirrors installed at intersections or blind corners where pedestrains cannot be seen by forklift operators?

10. Are the forklifts in your facility correctly designated for your type of operation (based on atmosphere, hazards of materials handled, etc.)?

11. Are motorized hand and hand/rider trucks so designed that the brakes are applied, and power to the drive motor shuts off when the operator releases his or her grip on the device that controls the travel?

12. Is powered equipment available to personnel handling material instead of requiring a manual lift for heavy materials?

13. Are rack shelves and bins positioned at waist level to reduce lifts from shoulder height and from floor height?

14. Are employees who handle materials provided with task-oriented ergonomic training?
