Falling Objects and Overhead Hazards in Agriculture Inspection

1. Are workers aware of areas that have overhead hazards?

2. Is signage posted to alert workers and bystanders that overhead hazards are present?

3. Does overhead signage include the maximum load limit?

4. When necessary, are workers wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect their heads from falling objects or other overhead hazards?

1. Do overhead storage platforms have a guardrail system and toe board properly installed and meets requirements?

2. Are the toe boards at least 4 inches high and attached 1/4 inch or less from the floor?

3. If materials are piled above the height of the toe board, is there paneling up to the mid-rail or top rail must be used to prevent materials from falling?

1. When accessing overhead storage by a fixed ladder, floor hatch, or any other open space, is there a gate or a removable railing with a top rail and mid rail installed?

2. Are workers using chain hoist systems to help safely load overhead storage?

3. Is there enough space for large farm vehicles, livestock, and workers to move safely and smoothly throughout the farmyard's buildings and structures?

1. Are bale stacks secure and binded?

2. Are all bales within the stack supported?

3. Are workers removing bales from the top of the stack instead of the bottom?
